Indian Council of Agricultural Research–National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (ICAR–NIBSM), Raipur, organised a one-day training programme on “Efficient Fertilizer Use and Promotion of Bio-Resource Centres for Farmer Producer Organisation Members” in collaboration with Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN) at its Raipur campus.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) members about balanced fertilizer application, integrated nutrient management and sustainable agricultural practices to improve soil health and crop productivity.

Around 30 Farmer Producer Organisation members from Kota and Tilda blocks participated in the training programme. Addressing the inaugural session, senior scientist Dr. P. K. Rai underlined the importance of judicious fertilizer use, eco-friendly technologies and scientific soil health management for ensuring sustainable agricultural development.

Dr. A. Amarender Reddy served as the Nodal Officer for the Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship and Gramodaya Mission programme and coordinated the training programme along with co-coordinator Dr. Priyanka Meena.

During the technical sessions, experts from leading agricultural institutions delivered lectures on biofertilizers, balanced fertilizer application and efficient nutrient management practices. The speakers included Dr. Anil Gupta of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research–National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Dr. Purushottham from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Dr. Srilatha of the National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM), Hyderabad, Dr. S. K. Sharma and Dr. Arka Prava of Visva-Bharati University.

The experts highlighted the role of bio-resource centres in promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. Participants actively interacted with the scientists and discussed practical challenges related to nutrient management and soil fertility.

As part of the practical exposure visit, the participants were taken to the green gram field at the institute farm, where scientific crop management practices were demonstrated. The field visit generated considerable interest among the Farmer Producer Organisation members. The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session and distribution of training materials among the participants.
