SAI NERC Imphal Organises “Sundays on Cycle – Commonwealth Games Edition”

Sports Authority of India (SAI), North East Regional Centre (NERC), Imphal successfully organized the special edition of “Sundays on Cycle – Commonwealth Games Edition” on Sunday at SAI NERC, Takyel, Imphal with enthusiastic participation from Commonwealth Games athletes, coaches, officials, fitness enthusiasts and general public. The event was organized with the objective of promoting fitness, healthy lifestyle, sports culture and mass participation in physical activities through cycling and community engagement.
Shri Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, MLA, Nambol AC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the programme and formally flagged off the cycling event. More than 100 participants took part in the programme. He appreciated the “Sundays on Cycle” initiative for inspiring people, especially the youth, to adopt active and healthy lifestyles through regular physical activity. He emphasized that sports and fitness play a vital role in building a healthy society and encouraging positive lifestyle habits among the younger generation.
Guest of Honour, Smt. Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi, Olympian; Padma Shri, Arjuna, and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee; and retired Commandant, CRPF, motivated the participants and athletes by sharing her inspiring journey and experiences in international sports. She encouraged the youth to remain dedicated, disciplined and committed towards sports and fitness, while highlighting the importance of consistency, hard work, determination and mental strength in achieving excellence at the highest level.
Several Commonwealth Games medal-winning athletes also expressed pride in being part of the “CWG Special Edition of Sundays on Cycle”, describing it as a movement promoting fitness, unity and sporting spirit across the nation. The athletes highlighted Bharat’s rapid progress in sports infrastructure, high-performance training centres and athlete support systems, and expressed confidence that the country will set new benchmarks when it hosts the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030.
The programme concluded with the felicitation of Commonwealth Games medallists and participants, and presentation of mementoes.
