Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti Shri V. Somanna Chairs Coordination Meeting to Review Railway Infrastructure Projects in and Around Bengaluru

Shri V. Somanna, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, chaired a coordination meeting at the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office, Bengaluru today to review the progress of various railway infrastructure projects in and around Bengaluru city. During the meeting, Bengaluru Division presented several major initiatives planned for decongesting Bengaluru railway terminals, improving commuter convenience and expediting safety-related works.

The Hon’ble Minister reviewed the status and progress of construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) in lieu of level crossing gates within a 100-km radius of Bengaluru. Issues related to land acquisition and coordination among departments were also discussed. Shri V. Somanna advised officials of all concerned departments to work in close coordination for timely execution of the projects. He further instructed officials to ensure quality execution of works, avoid water stagnation at RUBs and provide adequate lighting facilities at the underpasses.

The proposed Mega Coaching Terminal at Yelahanka was also presented before the Hon’ble Minister during the meeting. Later, while addressing the media, Shri V. Somanna stated that there are around 100 level crossing gates within a 100-km radius of Bengaluru. ROBs/RUBs have already been sanctioned for 46 level crossing gates, DPRs are under preparation for elimination of 24 more level crossing gates and proposals are being prepared for the remaining locations.

He stated that elimination of level crossing gates through construction of ROBs/RUBs will significantly enhance safety and ensure smooth road traffic movement. The Hon’ble Minister further informed that a Mega Coaching Terminal will be developed at Yelahanka. He also stated that the Road Under Bridge work at LC No. 16, Ramohalli Gate is progressing well and is expected to be completed by 30 June 2026.

Highlighting the ongoing railway development in Karnataka, Shri V. Somanna said that railway infrastructure projects worth more than ₹50,000 crore are currently in progress in the State. He informed that the Tumakuru–Bengaluru quadrupling project will be taken up and plans are also being made for a direct railway line between Bengaluru and Kolar. Fulfilling the long-pending demand of the public for enhanced connectivity between Bengaluru and Mumbai, Hon’ble Minister of Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw will flag off the new bi-weekly service between SMVT Bengaluru and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai through video conferencing on 17.05.2026, he informed.

The meeting was attended by Shri Ajay Sharma, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction; Shri Maheshwara Rao, Chief Commissioner, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA); Shri Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division; and officials from Railways, National Highways and various departments of the State Government.
