The foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of Chhattisgarh’s Silver Jubilee has now transitioned into ground reality. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced on-ground construction for the mega project spanning from Pathalgaon-Kunkuri to the Chhattisgarh/Jharkhand border (NH-43), with a total investment of ₹3,147 crore. This project is poised to become a milestone for the socio-economic development of the region.

Notably, the most significant and extensive portion of the 627 km long Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor passes through Chhattisgarh. Approximately 384 km of the corridor's total length is situated within the state. Currently, construction work on the 104.250 km Pathalgaon-Jharkhand border section has gained rapid momentum, which is vital for the overall success of the corridor.

To ensure a hassle-free and safe journey, a total of 382 small and large structures are being constructed along this route. This includes 07 major bridges, 30 minor bridges, 06 flyovers, and 01 elevated viaduct structure. Additionally, to facilitate local traffic and wildlife movement, 10 Vehicular Underpasses (VUP), 18 Light Vehicular Underpasses (LVUP), 26 Small Vehicular Underpasses (SVUP), 21 Cattle/Pedestrian Underpasses (PUP), and 278 box culverts are being built.

Project Director of the Korba Project Unit, Shri DD Parlawar, stated that this section acts as the "backbone" of the Raipur-Dhanbad Corridor. Its primary objective is to provide new strength to inter-state connectivity and commercial transport between Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The highway will directly link industrial hubs like Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, and Korba to Dhanbad in Jharkhand, facilitating smoother logistics for coal mines and major steel plants located in Ranchi and Jamshedpur.

This corridor is not just a road but a 'lifeline' for Jashpur district. It has been designed to integrate key towns such as Pathalgaon, Kansabel, Kunkuri, Duldula, and Jashpur into a unified network. The fast and safe connectivity will result in fuel savings, reduced travel time, and lower transportation costs. Furthermore, the efficient transport of goods and minerals will lead to the creation of employment and new business opportunities for local communities.
