Posted On: 10 APR 2026 11:29AM by PIB Dehradun

The sixth day of the Doon Book Festival began with a rang of activities at the Children’s Corner where around 800 students participated in fun learning activities. At the “Aipan Art Corner,” children tried their hands at the traditional Uttarakhand folk art of Aipan.

In an engaging storytelling session, Rajesh Pandey presented the importance of the environment and nature through stories like Travelling Tree and A Tiny Sapling. This was followed by a Pictionary game conducted by Dr. Sangita Angom, through which children learned about wildlife and nature. The activities concluded with a zine-making workshop by Neha and Archie, where children expressed their imagination creatively in their booklets.

At the Doon Lit Fest, Chandrachur Ghose and Anuj Dhar held an in-depth discussion on the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the various mysteries associated with him, giving the audience insight into several lesser-known aspects of history. Based on their research and writings on Subhas Chandra Bose, they explained how, in recent years, new archival sources and scholarly perspectives have emerged, challenging established assumptions and offering a broader and more complex understanding of India’s freedom struggle.

Writer, historian, and retired IAS officer Sanjeev Chopra presented India’s history in an engaging and accessible style through literature in his session. In a dialogue session with social activist Anoop Nautiyal, Sanjeev Chopra emphasised that reading literature is essential to understanding India’s changing identity and history.

The day concluded with a cultural evening, where the captivating performance by Uttarakhand’s renowned folk singer Priyanka Mehar enthralled the audience with folk music.

Coming up on April 10, the Children’s Corner will see a musical storytelling session by Swati Goyal and an illustration workshop on the theme of “Phool Dei” with Mukesh Nautiyal. At the Doon Lit Fest, Vaibhav Purandare will speak on “Patriotism & Revolution from India’s Past" along with a special session titled “Aman Ke Farishte” will feature Colonel Ajay Raina and Brigadier Sushil Tanwar will discuss service and human values. The day will conclude with a cultural performance by Vanshika Joshi.
