BEML Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking under Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Aimed at reinforcing India’s growing capabilities in integrated urban mobility solutions, this agreement intends to facilitate collaboration on metro rail projects in India and expand their footprint in global markets.
The MoU was signed at DMRC office in New Delhi by Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Director (Rail & Metro), BEML Limited, and Shri P.K. Garg, Director (Business Development), DMRC, in the presence of Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML Limited, and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML, stated that this agreement with DMRC would further strengthen BEML’s presence in the rail and metro sector. He noted that BEML’s capabilities in manufacturing rolling stock, combined with DMRC’s expertise in execution and operation of metro systems, would enable these two organizations to offer comprehensive, competitive, and globally benchmarked solutions. The understanding between the two organizations is aimed at exploring areas of mutual interest and fostering collaboration in the field of metro rail systems.

Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, termed the MoU as a “historic collaboration between two Indian giants.” He stated that this partnership would significantly enhance mobility in urban transport systems, particularly metro networks, both in India and globally. He spoke about the importance of indigenously designed and manufactured Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for upcoming infrastructure projects such as high-speed rail, metro systems, and Regional Rapid Transit Systems (RRTS). He further said that under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, and in line with the priority of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, both organizations should work jointly to develop indigenous TBMs by combining DMRC’s technical expertise and vast execution experience with BEML’s world-class design and manufacturing capabilities.
The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two organizations, focusing on jointly identifying, pursuing, and executing metro rail projects. As part of this partnership, BEML and DMRC will collaborate in domestic and global markets by leveraging their respective strengths.

This strategic alliance is not limited to the supply of metro coaches but focuses on providing integrated metro solutions under a complete EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model. BEML recently secured its first overseas order for metro rolling stock in the African region valued at approximately USD 60 million, and this new agreement will further strengthen the company's global footprint.
