Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Shimray, Asst. regional Director, IGNOU, Kohima highlighted IGNOU’s commitment to equity, inclusivity, accessibility and affordability in higher education, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020. He noted that IGNOU, the world’s largest open university, has been accredited with an A++ grade by NAAC and ranked as the top open university under the NIRF. The University currently offers over 333 academic programmes through an extensive network of regional and learner support centres, including those catering to armed forces personnel and overseas learners.

Dr. Shimray also emphasised the University’s initiatives in digital and flexible learning, including access to self-learning materials through the e-Gyankosh portal and mobile applications, as well as online education platforms such as SWAYAM and SWAYAM Prabha. He added that IGNOU provides flexibility through course-wise registration, integrates practical components like internships and fieldwork, and offers fee concessions to SC/ST learners along with robust academic support systems.
Addressing the gathering, Guest of Honour Rupin Sharma, DGP, Govt. of Nagaland emphasised that education is a continuous journey and not confined to degrees. He stated that degrees signify effort but not the end of learning, and encouraged graduates to remain curious, adaptable and committed to lifelong learning.

Highlighting the role of education in societal progress, Shri Sharma noted that institutions like IGNOU have played a vital role in bridging educational gaps and expanding access to learning opportunities. He lauded the University’s flexible and inclusive model, which enables learners from diverse backgrounds, including those in remote areas, to pursue education.

Congratulating the graduates, Shri Sharma urged them to view their academic achievements as a stepping stone and to continue upgrading their skills, contributing to both personal growth and societal development.

The Kohima Regional Centre, established in December 2000 with the objective of reaching unreached sections, has witnessed significant growth over the years and continues to expand access to higher education across Nagaland.
