Government Takes Proactive Measures in the state to Ensure Uninterrupted Supply of LPG and other products

Gangtok, April 5, 2026: The Government of Sikkim, in coordination with the Centre, has taken proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted and equitable supply of LPG in the state .
To address consumer grievances and monitor LPG distribution, the state Government has established 'District Control Rooms' in all six districts. The Food & Civil Supplies Department and District Control Rooms are monitoring LPG distribution centers to prevent black marketing and hoarding.
To expand alternate cooking fuel sources, Kerosene is now made available at identified petrol pumps across the six districts for eligible migrant labourers, where each eligible migrant worker can avail a maximum of 20 liters at government notified rates.

As of April 4, the LPG stock position at the IOCL Bottling Plant at Bageykhola reporting a storage capacity of 300 MT and an opening stock of 269 MT. The state-wide LPG inventory includes 2,555 domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 KG), 380 commercial LPG cylinders (19.2 KG), 236 composite LPG cylinders (10 KG), 462 free trade LPG cylinders, and 16 domestic 5 Kg LPG cylinders.
Recently, Secretary (MoPNG) chaired a meeting with Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries (Food & Civil Supplies) of all States and UTs to review the fuel supply situation and highlighted measures taken to ensure adequate availability. States were directed to prioritize LPG distribution, especially for domestic and essential needs, while maintaining strict vigilance against hoarding, diversion, and misinformation.
Also, the Govt. of India, vide letters dated 27.03.2026 and 02.04.2026, has requested Chief Secretaries of all States/UTs to intensify proactive and regular public communication, conduct daily press briefs at an appropriate senior level, along with timely dissemination of accurate information through social and electronic media to effectively counter misinformation and reassure citizens regarding adequate availability and smooth distribution of LPG.

Customers are encouraged to continue using digital booking modes, avoid panic booking or stocking, and rely only on official sources of information.
The public is urged to report any malpractices, including black marketing, hoarding, or overcharging, to the District Control Rooms. They are also encouraged to use alternate fuels such as electric induction, electric cooktops, and other means wherever feasible.
