SMP Kolkata observes 55th National Safety Week, Highlights Commitment to Safe and Sustainable Port Operations

The 55th National Safety Week is being observed at Kolkata Dock System of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata from 04.03.2026 to 10.03.2026, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to safe, secure and sustainable port operations. This year’s theme, “Engage, Educate & Empower People to Enhance Safety,” highlights the vital link between safety, health, welfare and national development.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairperson, SMP, Kolkata, in the presence of Shri Devidatta Satpathy, Chief Vigilance Officer; Shri Chandan Chatterjee, Secretary, SMPA; Shri R.S. Rajhans, Traffic Manager and Safety Committee Secretary; Shri G.G. Rao, Inspectorate of Dock Safety; and Shri Ranjan Kumar Das Gupta, Dy. Commandant, CISF, along with senior officials, employees and workers on 4.03.2026.
On this occasion, a Safety Manual was released to further strengthen structured safety practices and enhance awareness among employees, workers and stakeholders associated with port operations.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Raman highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of safety in port operations. He expressed satisfaction that the port has recorded zero fatal accidents over the past one year, reflecting the collective commitment and discipline of the port community.
Shri Raman, congratulated all Heads of Departments, officers, employees, Unions and stakeholders associated with the port for their dedicated efforts in maintaining a safe working environment and encouraged continued focus on awareness, training and strict adherence to safety protocols.
Shri Devidatta Satapathy, Chief Vigilance Officer, also spoke on the occasion and underscored the importance of vigilance, transparency and compliance with safety norms in ensuring safe and efficient operations. Senior officials, employees and workers participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the culture of safety across the port.
The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision under Maritime India Vision 2047, which emphasises the adoption of global standards in safety, sustainability and operational excellence in the maritime sector.
