A workshop on "Awareness and Sensitization about Official Statistics and the Indian Statistical System" was sorganized

A one-day workshop on "Awareness and Sensitization about Official Statistics and the Indian Statistical System" was successfully organized by the School of Studies in Statistics, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, in collaboration with the National Statistical Systems Training Academy (NSSTA).

The event took place at the M. L. Shroff Auditorium, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, aiming to educate students, researchers, and stakeholders from Chhattisgarh's universities and colleges on official statistics. NSSTA, a center of excellence under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, focuses on capacity building in survey methodologies, data analytics, machine learning, and AI for the Indian economy. 

Shri Sachchidanand Shukla, Vice Chancellor of Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, chaired the workshop, with Shri Altaf Hussain Haji ISS, Deputy Director General, National Statistics Office (NSO) Field Operations Division, Regional Office Raipur, as Chief Guest. Shri Shiv Balak Verma, Director of NSSTA, served as Special Guest, while Ms. Sachita Rakesh Agrawal, Deputy Director, NSO Raipur, also participated.

Prof. D.K. Gangeshwar, Head of the School of Studies in Statistics, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the workshop's objectives, followed by a ceremonial lamp lighting.

Highlights from Addresses

In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor Shukla emphasized statistics' role in policy formulation, AI tools in data analysis, and resource sharing in the information era.

Chief Guest Shri Haji discussed official and administrative statistics, census types, NSO surveys, statistical literacy, job opportunities, and encouraged youth participation in nation-building.

Key speaker Shri Verma described statistics as the "grammar of development," India's data richness, and the importance of data science. Ms. Agrawal detailed NSO's role and ongoing surveys.

Workshop Impact

Participants gained insights into data collection, quality, challenges, and applications in planning, policy-making, and decision-making. The event enhanced understanding of ethical standards, transparency, and statistical processes for evidence-based development.
