Ministry of Tourism Organises DekhoApnaDesh Schools Contest Prize Distribution and Tourism Education Programme at IHM Bengaluru

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, through its Bengaluru office, in association with the Institute of Hotel Management Bangalore, successfully organised the Prize Distribution Ceremony of the DekhoApnaDesh (DAD) Schools Brochure Contest along with a Tourism Education Programme at the IHM Bengaluru campus today.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held in the forenoon, recognising outstanding student entries under the DekhoApnaDesh Schools Contest, an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism aimed at encouraging school students to creatively explore and present India’s tourism potential through handwritten brochures highlighting local destinations, culture, heritage, crafts, cuisine and natural attractions.

As part of the Tourism Education Programme, students from Classes VIII to XI participated in a range of experiential and interactive activities, including career counselling sessions, quizzes, fireless cooking, cupcake decoration and painting competitions, along with guided interactions with faculty and professionals from leading tourism and hospitality institutions. These activities were aimed at familiarising students with diverse career pathways in tourism, hospitality management, culinary arts and travel services.

Institutions such as the Institute of Hotel Management, Bangalore, Indian Culinary Institute, Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management, contributed to the programme by disseminating information on courses, training opportunities and career prospects in the tourism and hospitality sector. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 110 school students, along with teachers and institutional representatives.

The programme was designed to create awareness about career opportunities in tourism, hospitality and allied sectors. Students benefited from interactive engagements, orientation on tourism education pathways, and exposure to the diverse opportunities available in the hospitality and travel ecosystem.Participation certificates were issued to all student participants. The event reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to capacity building and early career sensitisation, while nurturing pride in India’s rich tourism heritage through the DekhoApnaDesh initiative.

The event was graced by ShriShyamaRaju, President, South India Hotels and Restaurants Association, Shri H Jagadeesh, Secretary, Karnataka Tourism Society, Smt. SitaLekshmi,General Manager, Renaissance Hotel Bengaluru and Smt. Sandhya Haridas, Director, Indiatourism Bengaluru in the morning session, and Mrs. Rashmi Prasad,Area Director,Learning and Development (South), Indian Hotels Company Limited, Mr. Kiron Kumar, General Manger, The Park Bangalore and Ms. VanshitaMalu, Chef at ITC Gardenia in the valedictory session.
