BIS and CCI Organise Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra in Guwahati

The Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra Programme was successfully organised today at the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC), Guwahati. The programme was held as part of the nationwide Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra, an initiative aimed at promoting quality consciousness, standardisation and consumer protection across the country.
The initiative is being organised by the Consumer Confederation of India (CCI) with support from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) during the period from 24th December 2025 to 15th March 2026. The objective of the Yatra is to generate widespread awareness regarding quality control, standardization mechanisms, consumer rights, and the role and functions of BIS in safeguarding public interest.
The programme was graced by Shri Isaac Ginlaldin, Scientist and Joint Director, BIS, who highlighted the importance of adhering to Indian Standards and the need to enhance public awareness about certification marks such as the ISI Mark and Hallmark. He emphasised that standardisation is crucial for ensuring product safety, reliability and building consumer confidence.
Dr. Anant Sharma, National Chairman of CCI, stressed the importance of active consumer participation in strengthening market accountability and enabling informed decision-making. Mr. M. Selvraj, National Working President, CCI, elaborated on the objectives of the Consumer Awareness Bharat Yatra and its extensive outreach across various states. Mr. Kailash Kumawat, National Director, CCI, and Mr. Sanjay Khandelwal, Secretary, CCI, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts among regulatory bodies, consumer organisations and the public to foster a strong culture of quality. Mr. J. Daniel and other members of the CCI delegation were also present and participated in the deliberations.
The programme witnessed active participation from officials, consumer organisations, and other stakeholders. Interactive sessions were held to sensitise participants on consumer rights, grievance redressal mechanisms, and the importance of purchasing certified products.
