Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan visited the Indian Institute of Mass Communication today as part of an official visit. The Minister was accorded a warm welcome at the campus, following which he interacted with the students.

During the interaction, the Minister engaged with the students to understand their areas of interest within journalism. He encouraged them to explore opportunities as content creators and enquired about their participation in initiatives such as WAVES and International Film Festival of India.

Highlighting the expanding scope of media and communication, Dr. Murugan said that students could pursue fulfilling careers across print media, electronic media, digital platforms, animation, and post-production. He pointed out that India has emerged as a global hub for post-production work, with cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad handling significant portions of post-production for Hollywood films. Referring to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of the Orange Economy, he noted that every individual today has the potential to be a creator and contribute to the growth of the Indian economy. He added that IIMC, as a prestigious institution, plays a key role in shaping successful careers in the media sector.

Following the interaction, Dr. Murugan visited the Comm-Museum, a pioneering initiative of IIMC Kottayam that briefly traces the history and evolution of communication and media. He also planted a sapling on the campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
