AIIA Goa Marks 4th Foundation Day with Workshop on Integrative Protocol for Colorectal Carcinoma


New OPDs and Panchakarma Theatres inaugurated to strengthen public health services

Tri-party MoU with DHS Goa and Tata Memorial Centre to boost integrative cancer care

AIIA Goa reaffirms commitment to excellence in Ayurveda education, research and patient care

Marking its fourth Foundation Day, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, today organised a workshop on “Preparation of Integrative Protocol for Colorectal Carcinoma,” bringing together eminent experts to develop evidence-informed pathways in integrative oncology. A press conference was also convened at the AIIA Goa campus, addressed by Prof. (Vd.) P.K. Prajapati, Director; Prof. Dr. Sujata Kadam, Dean; and Dr. Vinayak Chakor, Deputy Medical Superintendent.

Prof. (Vd.) P.K. Prajapati, Director, announced that AIIA Goa has achieved NABH accreditation, reaffirming its commitment to high standards of quality and patient safety. With this achievement and the addition of new facilities, the institute now operates 25 OPDs, including Manasrog Chikitsa, De-addiction, Swastha Rakshan, Diabetes, Casualty, Critical Care and several other multidisciplinary units, integrating classical Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific tools.

He added that the upcoming 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in New Delhi, with a strong focus on safety assessments, is expected to further advance global acceptance of evidence-based Ayurvedic products such as Ashwagandha. The Summit will help shape a decade-long roadmap for evidence-based, equitable and sustainable integration of traditional, complementary and indigenous medicines into national health systems.

As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, new OPDs—Health Assessment Screening OPD and Dental OPD—were inaugurated, along with the Kayachikitsa and Kaumarbhritya Panchakarma Theatres and an extension of the IPD block, informed Prof. (Dr.) Sujata Kadam, Dean, AIIA Goa.

She noted that patient services have expanded substantially, with 800+ OPD visitors per day, all provided free Ayurvedic medicines. Since inception, AIIA Goa has recorded:

  • 5.25 lakh+ OPD footfall
  • 31,000+ IPD admissions
  • 77,200 Panchakarma procedures
  • 1,35,000 radiology and laboratory investigations

In alignment with the Government of India’s Medical Value Travel initiative, AIIA Goa has also emerged as a centre for wellness tourism, having served 233 foreign patients in OPD and 16 patients under IPD care. Till date, the institute has conducted 40,400 health camps, including general, disease-specific, school health check-ups and Suvarnaprashan camps.

On the academic front, AIIA Goa currently hosts four UG batches with a total intake of 400 students. The PG programme, initiated in December 2024, admitted 20 scholars in Kriya Sharir, Samhita Siddhant, Agada Tantra, Rasashastra evam Bhaishajya Kalpana and Rachana Sharir. In November 2025, 29 new PG scholars joined in Dravya Guna, Rog Nidan & Vikriti Vigyan, Kayachikitsa, Kaumarbhritya and Panchakarma. The institute also offers an Ayurveda Dietician Course (30 seats) and Panchakarma Technician Course (10 seats).

AIIA Goa has forged strategic collaborations to foster research, innovation, biodiversity conservation and integrative medical services. Key partnerships include:

  • Department of Tourism, Govt. of Goa – for promoting wellness and medical tourism.
  • CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography – for institutional linkage and joint research.
  • BITS Pilani, Goa Campus – for collaborative research projects and faculty-student engagement.
  • Goa State Biodiversity Board – for conservation and documentation of biodiversity.
  • Goa Institute of Management – for healthcare innovation, research and academic programmes.

A significant milestone is the tri-party MoU between AIIA Goa, the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa, and the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre, enabling collaboration in treatment, research, education and integrative cancer care.

The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Goa, under the Ministry of Ayush , is an apex institution dedicated to advancing Ayurveda through postgraduate and doctoral education, cutting-edge research, and a state-of-the-art 200-bed integrative referral hospital. The institute was inaugurated on 11 December 2022 by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

As AIIA Goa celebrates its Foundation Day, the institute reaffirms its commitment to excellence in patient care, education and research, continuing its journey towards becoming a global leader in integrative Ayurveda.
