“As a relatively young institute, IIT Gandhinagar is proud to see its alumni placing their footprints firmly in the cement and shaping the institute’s identity with their achievements,” remarked Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, during the Young Alumni Excellence Awards 2024, held on December 5, 2025.  The evening recognised the institute’s brightest young graduates for their contributions in innovation, academia, and entrepreneurship, bringing together students, faculty, and alumni for a night of inspiration and networking.

The ceremony honoured alumni for their remarkable contributions in innovation, entrepreneurship, and societal impact, bringing together students, faculty, and alumni for an evening of recognition and networking.

“IIT Gandhinagar deeply values its alumni community, and their commitment to the institute is reflected in countless ways. Just a few weeks ago, more than 50 alumni volunteered their time without being asked or compensated, to coach our undergraduate students during placement week through Zoom sessions. Their willingness to stay connected and support the next generation embodies the spirit of IITGN,” said Prof Leslee Lazar, Faculty In-Charge, Alumni Relations, in his welcome address.

Highlighting the institute’s evolving academic landscape, Prof Moona said, “With new academic programs in Artificial Intelligence and IC Design among the first of their kind in the IIT system and a rapidly growing student and faculty community, the institute stands at an exciting point in its evolution. Each achievement of our alumni strengthens our belief that we are on the right path.”

Prof SP Mehrotra, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasised the pivotal role of alumni in advancing IITGN’s vision and mentoring the next generation, noting that their success directly contributes to the institute’s growth.

This year’s Young Alumni Excellence Awards honoured five distinguished alumni of IIT Gandhinagar for their outstanding achievements across diverse domains. Vishnu Gupta was recognised with the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award for his exemplary leadership and contributions in his field. The Outstanding Academic Achievement Award was conferred upon Sumitava Mukherjee, Abhik Patel, and Ajinkya Kulkarni, each of whom has demonstrated remarkable scholarly accomplishments and academic impact. The Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award was presented to Nisarg Shah, acknowledging his significant entrepreneurial success and innovation. Together, the 2024 awardees represent the institute’s growing legacy of excellence in academia, industry, and entrepreneurial leadership.Four distinguished alumni were honoured, with each awardee sharing personal journeys, career milestones, and reflections on how IITGN shaped their professional paths.

A special video presentation by Nisarg Shah showcased the alumni’s accomplishments across sectors, highlighting the diverse impact of IITGN graduates. The evening concluded with a musical performance and dinner, fostering meaningful connections within the IITGN community.
