Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, organised a Chintan Shivir on “Alternate & Emerging Technologies in E-Motors” on 5th December 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Chintan Shivir witnessed the active participation of key industry leaders, domain experts, academic & research institutions, and technology innovators who engaged in insightful discussions, expert talks, and interactive sessions aimed at advancing cleaner, greener, and more efficient technologies for E-Motors. The initiative focused on fostering knowledge exchange and providing strategic direction to strengthen India’s sustainable mobility ecosystem.
The event featured extensive deliberations on breakthrough technologies, sustainable innovations, and emerging trends in E-Motors, with discussions centred on supply chain resilience, indigenous preparedness, self-reliance, and the scope of alternate motor and ancillary technologies. Key motor technologies highlighted during the sessions included Induction Motors, Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs), Wound-Field Synchronous Motors (WFSMs), Permanent-Magnet-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMA-SRMs), and motors utilising ferrite or other non-rare-earth magnet materials.
The session outlined a nationally aligned roadmap for alternate motor technologies with segment-wise prioritisation across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger cars, buses, and commercial vehicles, along with identification of short, medium and long-term technology options based on maturity, cost, and performance.
Shri Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, highlighted that the objective of the Chintan Shivir is not limited to addressing rare-earth magnet supply concerns, but to envision the future of electric motor technologies. He stated that India must aspire to develop and supply next-generation motors that are lighter, more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable, positioning the country as a global leader in the evolving e-mobility landscape.

The event concluded with a collective commitment from participating industry bodies, stakeholders, and academic & research institutions to work together in advancing India’s automotive technology landscape. The Chintan Shivir marked a significant step in uniting key stakeholders, fostering strategic dialogue, and laying the foundation for a resilient, competitive, and future-ready automotive ecosystem, in line with the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
