Sanchar Saathi App: Telecom Empowerment at Citizens’ Fingertips

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Gujarat Licensed Service Area (LSA) organized a Seminar on cybersecurity and Sanchar Saathi App at RC Technical institute, Ahmedabad on 28.11.2025, the event saw active participation from more than 150 attendees, including students and faculty members. The session conducted by Sh Ajay Kothari, Director(DIU) aimed to educate students on the growing threats of cyber frauds in today’s digital age and DoT initiative to curb misuse of telecom resources in cyber frauds.

At the outset, participants were introduced to the Sanchar Saathi Portal (https://sancharsaathi.gov.in) and App, an initiative by the DoT to empower mobile users and enhance digital safety awareness. Sanchar Saathi offers various citizen centric services under its umbrella, aimed at safeguarding user privacy, mitigating telecom-related fraud, and empowering subscribers with greater control and transparency.

Key services under Sanchar Saathi:

  • CHAKSU (Report Suspected Fraud Communications):
    Facilitates reporting of suspicious or unsolicited communications received via call, SMS, or WhatsApp, which may be linked to cybercrime attempts.
  • TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection): Allows users to check the number of mobile connections registered under their name and report any unauthorized or unnecessary connections.
  • CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register):
    Enables recovery and blocking of lost or stolen mobile devices across all telecom networks.

Since its launch, the CEIR initiative has blocked over 1.44 lakh mobile handsets, traced more than 88,700, and recovered around 37,420 devices, achieving a recovery rate of approximately 42% in Gujarat state. Across India, more than 41.9 lakh handsets have been blocked and about 7.16 lakh mobile recovered.

Under the “Mobile Connections in Your Name” service, citizens from Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Daman & Diu have made more than 13 lakh requests, leading to the disconnection of around 8.2 lakh unauthorized connections. Nationwide, the service has received 2.87 crore requests and disconnected around 1.9 crore mobile connections.

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who remained actively engaged throughout the session. It followed an interactive format, highlighted by a live demonstration that deepened their understanding of key cybersecurity measures. Students also had the opportunity to explore the Sanchar Saathi app firsthand, navigating its various modules to gain practical familiarity with the tools designed to strengthen digital safety.

The seminar provided in-depth insights into the prevalent modus operandi of cybercriminals, highlighting the various tactics used to exploit individuals through mobile phones, emails, and laptops. The session also emphasized the importance of promptly reporting cybercrimes, and attendees were informed about the following official resources:
