CSIR-CSMCRI Releases Book “Waste to Wealth” (Kachre Se Kanchan)

CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) organized a book release programme on Friday, November 21, 2025 for its latest Hindi publication “Waste to Wealth” (Kachre Se Kanchan). Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director, National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), New Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Kannan Srinivasan, Director, CSIR-CSMCRI presided over the programme.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. B. Ganguly, Chief Scientist. Dr. D.D. Ozha and Dr. J.R. Chunawala, the authors of the book, highlighted the significance of the book in supporting the vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Dr Ozha emphasized that the book provides valuable insights into management of solid, plastic, electronic, biomedical, and chemical wastes, and showcases research across CSIR institutes on converting waste into useful products.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam underlined the importance of science popularization to nurture scientific temperament and public awareness. She encouraged adoption of diverse tools for effective science communication that resonate with society. Dr. Kannan Srinivasan elaborated on CSMCRI’s active role in developing technologies for value addition from solid wastes, including potash fertilizer production. He also stressed the promotion of Rajbhasha Hindi in scientific discourse. Dr. K.B. Pandey, Principal Scientist at CSMCRI, informed that the institute has a long history of serving society through diverse scientific means, and dissemination of R&D innovations via books and popular science articles is one of its important contributions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. J.R. Chunawala.
