RRU Concludes the 2nd International Moot Court Competition 2025: Where Law Meets Global Security

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has successfully concluded the 2nd International Moot Court Competition (RIMC) 2025, held from 14–16 November 2025, on the theme “International Law and Global Security.” Over 24 teams (72 participants) from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Kenya participated in the event. The three-day gathering brought together distinguished judges, international law scholars, practitioners, and students from across India and abroad, offering a dynamic platform for rigorous legal engagement, dialogue, and advocacy on pressing global issues.

The inaugural day opened with the felicitation of dignitaries by Professor (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor, RRU, followed by the formal inauguration by Hon'ble Justice Bela M. Trivedi, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India. Justice Trivedi reflected on the rapidly evolving landscape of global threats, such as cyber warfare, terrorism, misinformation, climate-induced displacement, and transnational crimes, and emphasized the indispensable role of international law in safeguarding global order. She also highlighted Professor Patel’s distinguished positions as Member of the National Security Advisory Board of India, Member of the UN International Law Commission, and India’s candidate for the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Professor Patel, in his address, underscored that law and security must progress hand in hand in an era of geopolitical uncertainty. He encouraged participants to approach the competition with precision and global awareness, reminding them that moot problems often mirror real-world disputes.
Dr. Niharika Raizada, Director-in-Charge of the School of Criminal Law and Military Law (SCLML), welcomed all dignitaries and participants, emphasizing the school’s commitment to nurturing principled, research-driven, and globally competent legal professionals. Day 1 concluded with the preliminary rounds, which set a strong academic tone for the days ahead.

The second day witnessed intense quarter-final and semi-final rounds, where participants demonstrated exceptional legal reasoning and advocacy. The day featured two scholarly keynote lectures. The first, titled “Non-Compliance with the Judgment of an International Court,” was delivered by Mr. Sanitya Kalika, a Nepalese international lawyer and Hering Scholar at the University of Oxford, and former Assistant Professor of International Law at O.P. Jindal Global University. The second lecture, “Admissibility of Claims When a State Represents Corporations Before the ICJ,” was delivered by Mr. Harsh Mahaseth, Associate Professor of Law at Jindal Global University.
The day concluded with a vibrant cultural evening, highlighted by a special performance by the Gujarat Police Band commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. Their inspiring performance celebrated India’s cultural richness and left a memorable impression on all participants, especially international attendees.
The final day of the competition was graced by the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Professor (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel; Professor Chinnasamy Jayaraj, former Secretary-General of the Indian Society of International Law and Emeritus Resource Faculty at SCLML; Shri Udaya Kumar, Hon'ble Judicial Member, Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal, Bengaluru; Shri Smarak Swain, IRS, Director of the FATF Cell, Ministry of Finance; Dr. Shikhar Ranjan, Director of the Asian African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO); and Professor (Dr.) Mamata Biswal, Professor of Law at Gujarat National Law University (GNLU).
The day began with a thought-provoking keynote lecture by Professor Chinnasamy Jayaraj titled “International Space Law and Global Security: Prohibition of Weapons, Particularly Nuclear Weapons, in Outer Space.” This was followed by the moot court competition's grand finale, where the top teams argued with exceptional clarity, composure, and legal acumen.

Professor Patel addressed the gathering during the valedictory ceremony, commending the participants for their dedication and reminding them that international law professionals carry the responsibility of shaping a peaceful, rules-based global order.
Hon'ble Shri Udaya Kumar, Judicial Member, Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal, applauded RRU for fostering legal scholarship at the intersection of law and national security. He emphasized the importance of cultivating ethical, disciplined, and research-driven advocates who can contribute meaningfully to the judiciary and public service. He encouraged students to view moot court participation not merely as a competition but as a formative experience that strengthens analytical thinking, courtroom conduct, and respect for the rule of law. He further noted that international law has become integral to domestic governance, administrative adjudication, and state accountability, urging young legal minds to remain globally aware and nationally committed.
Dr. Shikhar Ranjan emphasized the importance of enhancing representation from the Global South in international courts and tribunals and encouraged students to aspire toward careers in global litigation and diplomacy. The day also witnessed the launch of the RRU–NSAB Investment Arbitration Database, marking a significant milestone in fostering advanced legal research at the University.
The Army Institute of Law, Mohali, emerged as the winner of the competition, while the United World School of Law, Karnavati University, secured the runners-up position. The winners also earned internship opportunities at the RRU Centre for International Law, with exposure to ongoing research themes under consideration at the United Nations International Law Commission.
The closing remarks were given by Ms. V. Jayshree, Faculty Convener of 2nd RRU International Moot Court Competition , who announced that the 3rd RRU International Moot Court Competition will be held from 9–11th October 2026. She expressed gratitude to the University leadership, faculty, staff, and volunteers whose dedication ensured the success of the event. RRU continues to strengthen its global footprint as a premier institution in national security, law, policing, and governance. The School of Criminal Law and Military Law remains a leading hub for justice education, legal research, and security studies, advancing RRU’s mission to cultivate ethically grounded and globally competent legal professionals.
