The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), has successfully coordinated the return of wanted fugitive Jagdish Punetha from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 13 November 2025.
The Red Notice subject, Jagdish Punetha, is wanted by Uttarakhand Police in FIR No. 239/2021, registered at Pithoragarh Police Station on allegations of cheating and criminal conspiracy. After fleeing to the UAE, the subject was traced and apprehended following coordinated efforts between the CBI and UAE authorities.

Earlier, the CBI had facilitated the publication of a Red Notice against Jagdish Punetha through INTERPOL on 06 May 2025, based on a request from Uttarakhand Police. A team of Uttarakhand Police subsequently travelled to the UAE to bring him back and returned to New Delhi.
INTERPOL Red Notices are circulated globally to all law enforcement agencies to assist in locating and tracking wanted fugitives. As the National Central Bureau (NCB) for INTERPOL in India, the CBI coordinates with all domestic law enforcement agencies through BHARATPOL for assistance via INTERPOL channels. More than 150 wanted criminals have been returned to India in the last few years through such coordinated efforts via INTERPOL channels.
