Department of Posts is organizing National Letter Writing Competition, 'Dhai Akhar' to encourage letter writing among the people. This initiative encourages individuals to express their emotions through meaningful words and helps them to enhance their writing abilities. Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region, Ahmedabad Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, said that participants are required to write a letter on the subject “A Letter to My Role Model”, expressing their thoughts, and address it to the Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle, Ahmedabad-380001. Selected letters in this competition will be awarded prizes ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. Various schools and colleges can collaborate with the Department of Posts to organize this event.The last date for submission is 8th December 2025.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that people of any age can participate in 'Dhai Akhar' letter writing competition. The first category is for participants up to 18 years of age, while the second category is for those above 18 years. Letters will only be accepted in the inland letter or envelope issued by the Department of Posts, and can be handwritten in English, Hindi, or any vernacular language in 500 and 1,000 words respectively. Letter must include the participant’s full name, address, date of birth, mobile number, and school/college name, and should be sent to the Chief Postmaster General of the respective circle by 8th December 2025.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that the winners of the competition will be awarded in four different categories at the state and national levels, with three prizes in each category. At the circle (state) level, the selected best letters will receive ₹25,000, ₹10,000, and ₹5,000 for first, second, and third positions, respectively. Prizes of ₹50,000/-, ₹25,000/- and ₹10,000/-will be given to the best letters selected at National level in first, second and third positions respectively. Overall, prizes worth Rs. 40.20 lakhs will be given to the winners across the country. For more information, participants can contact the Superintendents of their respective Divisions and the Postmasters of the Head Post offices.

Indian Postal Service Officer as well as writer of "India Post : 150 Glorious Yeras" Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that in digital scenario, where communication has become instant and largely digital, the art of letter writing still remains relevant due to its warmth and emotional depth. Letters are not merely a medium of exchanging words; they convey emotions, memories, and the depth of human relationships. ‘Dhai Akhar’ is a national-level initiative aimed at reintroducing youth to postal services and philately by encouraging creativity, originality, and self-expression. It is also a platform for individuals to showcase their writing skills and talent. The ‘Dhai Akhar’ letter writing competition is an effort to connect hearts through words. It is a celebration of the art of letter writing and a platform to bring emotions to life and give meaningful expression to thoughts.
