PIB Chennai organizes Vartalap an Orientation Programme for Journalists at CSIR-CECRI in Karaikudi

Press Information Bureau Chennai organised an Orientation Programme for the journalists at the CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) in Karaikudi on October 08, 2025.
Shri V. Palanichamy, Director General, South Zone (i/c) of the Press Information Bureau, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, urged the journalists to give due importance to news related to socio-economic development. He also stressed the imperative need to develop essential skills to keep pace with the current digital age. Furthermore, Shri V. Palanisamy noted that fighting fake news is a crucial task in the present era.

Shri V. Santhanam, Regional Director of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), explained how students can enroll in and pass classes 8, 10, and 12 through NIOS through that to reduce school dropout rates in the country, and subsequently pursue undergraduate degree courses in colleges. He also elaborated on the various examination centers available across Tamil Nadu and the examination facilities provided for differently-abled candidates.
Ms. K. Shalini Sushmita, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of Goods and Services Tax and Central Excise, elucidated the recently implemented GST 2.0 Next-Generation Reforms. She detailed how the general public can benefit from the reduction in prices of everyday household goods and how this contributes to the country's economic growth.

Dr. D. Jonas Davidson, Chief Scientist at CSIR-CECRI, listed the institute's research findings and explained the ongoing research projects. He elaborated on how these innovations are beneficial in our daily lives. He also extensively detailed the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and CECRI's contribution to specific goals, emphasizing the institute's role in the agriculture, pharmaceutical, and skill development sectors.
Shri S. Pravin Kumar, District Lead Bank Manager (Indian Overseas Bank) of Sivaganga, provided an explanation of the Financial Inclusion saturation campaign. He assured that all efforts would be made to ensure that millions of people in all 445 villages of Sivaganga district benefit from KYC (Know Your Customer) updates and financial social security schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).

The event was attended by Shri A. Azhagudurai, Media and Communications Officer of the Press Information Bureau, Shri J. Boswell Asir, Field Publicity Assistant of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Madurai, Dr. Johnson, Head of the Department of Journalism& Mass Communication at Alagappa University, scientists from CECRI, and approximately 80 journalists and journalism students.
