DGFT Guwahati organizes 4th North East Export Promotional Meet to boost Regional and Cross-Border Trade

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Regional Authority Guwahati, in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs, successfully organized the 4th North East Export Promotional Buyer–Seller Meet at Guwahati.

The meet witnessed the active participation of policymakers, diplomats, trade officials, business leaders and entrepreneurs from across India’s North Eastern states, along with representatives of business delegations from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Welcoming the gathering, Shri Ishantor Sobhapandit, Regional Director of the Indian Chamber of Commerce for the North East, underlined the importance of creating sustainable trade linkages and building stronger cross-border connections. He stressed the region’s strategic role as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia and emphasized continuity in such initiatives to ensure meaningful outcomes.

Addressing the gathering, Shri A. Ajay Kumar, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to improving connectivity, expanding market access and enhancing trade facilitation for the North East under the Act East Policy. He highlighted the efforts of the States Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in supporting state governments to realize their trade and investment potential on the global stage.

During the Trade and Export Awareness Session, participants received insights on export procedures, financing, logistics, compliance, and market access from experts representing DGFT, ECGC Limited, India Post, the Land Ports Authority of India, as well as chambers of commerce from neighboring countries. Shri Ajay Kumar Srivastava, Foreign Trade Development Officer of DGFT Guwahati, shared details about government export promotion schemes and encouraged direct interactions between exporters and international buyers for long-term competitiveness.

The programme concluded with a Buyer–Seller Meet that facilitated direct B2B interactions between exporters from all eight North Eastern states and buyers from Thailand, Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The discussions generated significant leads in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, textiles, handicrafts, and allied industries. The outcome reaffirmed the growing opportunities for the North East region in regional and international trade.

The inaugural session witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries, reflecting the importance of the North East Export Promotional Meet. Among those in attendance were Shri A. Ajay Kumar, IFS, Joint Secretary (States Division), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India; Smti. Namgay Pelden, Vice Consul of Bhutan to Guwahati; H.E. Shri Zikrul Hasan Fahad, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh; and Shri Satinder Kumar Bhalla, ITS, Secretary, North Eastern Council under the Ministry of DoNER. The session was further enriched by the participation of senior officials from the Government of Assam, as well as representatives from various stakeholder institutions.
