The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Gujarat LSA, today formally inducted 53 students from 16 prestigious institutions across Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu as 'Sanchar Mitras'. The induction ceremony, held at the Office of the Additional Director General, Gujarat LSA, marks the launch of the Sanchar Mitra Scheme 2.0 in the region. The newly nominated Sanchar Mitras, acting as Digital Ambassadors, were presented with welcome kits to empower them to conduct widespread awareness campaigns on various citizen-centric initiatives of the DoT.

The Sanchar Mitra Scheme 2.0 is a national initiative launched by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Shri. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on May 26, 2025. It builds upon the success of a national pilot program that demonstrated the effectiveness of engaging university students to bridge the communication gap between the government and citizens. The scheme's core objective is to leverage the power of India's youth ('Yuva Shakti') to foster a safer, more informed digital environment and to build a future-ready talent pool for the nation's telecom sector.

The 53 new Digital Ambassadors in Gujarat will play a critical role in educating the public on key issues. Their awareness drives will focus on empowering citizens with knowledge about crucial government services, such as using the Sanchar Saathi portal and Mobile Application, which provides telecom security services including suspected fraud reporting, mobile connection management, lost mobile blocking, handset verification and more. They will also conduct sessions on the prevention of cyber and telecom fraud, promote mobile security best practices, and work to dispel prevalent myths and misinformation regarding EMF radiation from telecom towers. The Sanchar Mitras will engage with local communities, educational institutions, and public spaces to ensure this vital information reaches every segment of society.

Speaking at the event, the Additional Director General of Gujarat LSA, stated, "Today, we are not just launching a program; we are igniting a movement led by the youth of Gujarat. These 53 Sanchar Mitras are our partners in building a digitally empowered and secure society. Through them, vital information on services like Sanchar Saathi and fraud prevention will reach every corner of the state, ensuring that technology serves and protects every citizen."

The Sanchar Mitra scheme is a volunteer-driven initiative. While participants receive a Certificate of Participation, high-performing students will be eligible for advanced opportunities, including internships with major telecom companies, involvement in DoT research and development projects, and mentorship for contributing to global policy forums.
