AIIMS Bhopal continues to make its mark on the global stage through pioneering contributions in forensic medicine. Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Vidua, Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal, represented India at MELECON 2025, organized by the Medicolegal Society of Nepal. During the conference, he presented his groundbreaking research on innovations in forensic sample preservation, emphasizing their vital role in ensuring accurate analysis, minimizing biases, and upholding the integrity of the criminal justice system. The advanced solutions developed under his leadership at AIIMS Bhopal, with active participation from students, include a tamper-proof sample dryer (copyrighted by the Design Office), a secure repository for samples in transit, customized forensic labels and void tapes, and a salt solution maker and dispenser for standardized evidence preservation.

Supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), these innovations have significantly strengthened the reliability of medico-legal evidence handling in India. In his presentation, he drew attention to several high-profile cases in India where the lack of proper forensic evidence was highlighted by the courts. He stressed the urgent need for advanced preservation technologies and demonstrated how the solutions developed at AIIMS Bhopal are already helping maintain the sanctity and evidentiary value of forensic samples. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Vidua was honored with the prestigious “Brand Ambassador Award” at MELECON 2025 for promoting best practices in medico-legal work. His achievements not only advance forensic science in India but also inspire young professionals across Nepal and the international community.
