Infrastructure Development and Investment in Tourism and Hospitality Sector

As per the information available, investments in the tourism and hospitality sector covering both debts disbursed by bank and Foreign Direct Investments is placed at ANNEXURE-I.
The Ministry does not maintain data on the number of hotel projects under development. However, details of tourism infrastructure projects under various schemes of the Ministry is given at ANNEXURE-II.
The contribution of the tourism sector to GDP and employment at the national level in recent years is as follows:

Development and promotion of tourist destinations and products, including medical tourism and eco-tourism is undertaken by the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration. The Ministry complements the efforts of States/UTs by developing and promoting various tourism products of the country, including medical tourism and eco-tourism through various schemes and initiatives.
The Ministry of Tourism has put in place the Scheme of “Capacity Building for Service Providers” (CBSP) provides education, training and certification to the tourism service providers and hospitality sector including homestay owners, to upgrade manpower at every strata of tourism industry in order to capitalize the vast tourism potential of the country to the fullest, and provide professional expertise to the local populace as well as create fresh opportunities in the tourism sector both in urban as well as rural areas.
This information was given by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
