Literature is the torchbearer for society. The greatest hallmark of timeless literature is its ability to create new narratives, even as times change, along with characters and contexts. The works of Munshi Premchand enrich this very tradition. Munshi Premchand, who is famous as the emperor of novels in the history of Hindi literature, his father Ajaib Rai Srivastava worked as a Postal Clerk in Lamahi, Varanasi. In such a situation, Premchand had an unbreakable relationship with the Postal family. Generations grew up by reading Munshi Premchand. A great intimacy is felt with his works. It seems as if the characters of these works are present around us. The above views were expressed by renowned blogger and litterateur and Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav on the eve of Premchand Jayanti (31 July).

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that Munshi Premchand, the son of a Postal official born in Lamhi, Varanasi, authored a new chapter in Indian literature. The period from 1918 to 1936 is regarded as the "Premchand Era" in the field of Hindi stories and novels. Premchand’s intellectual journey in literature moved from idealism to realism, and he remains one of the most prominent storytellers of India’s freedom struggle. He was not only a writer but also a journalist, teacher, and an individual with deep-rooted ideals. Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that the Department of Posts had issued a Commemorative Postage Stamp of 30 paise in Premchand’s memory on July 30, 1980, to mark his birth centenary.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that even in today’s era of globalization, Premchand’s literary and social discourses remain equally pertinent. Characters like Hori, Maikoo, Amina, Madho, Jiyawan, and Hamid continue to resonate with the realities of modern society.” Premchand brought literature closer to truth and reality. By giving voice to the neglected and oppressed sections of society, Premchand waged a silent war through his writings to awaken the sleeping conscience of these communities." Shri Yadav said that instead of associating himself with any ideology, Premchand associated himself with the burning issues prevalent in the society of that time. His literature is eternal and by staying close to reality, it seems to compete with time.
