The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, today hosted the 3rd Dr. Ajay Kumar Parida Memorial Lecture to commemorate the third death anniversary of the late Dr. Parida and to celebrate his profound legacy in scientific research and societal impact.

The memorial lecture was delivered by Dr. G. N. Hariharan, Former Executive Director of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF). In his keynote address titled “Linking Science with Society: Key to Sustainable Development,” Dr. Hariharan offered powerful insights that resonated with Dr. Parida’s enduring philosophy of serving society through science to serve, uplift, and empower marginalized communities.

Dr. Parida, during his association with MSSRF, led initiatives aimed at taking scientific innovations directly to grassroots communities. After assuming leadership at ILS as Director, he continued this mission by integrating advanced research with community-based programs, with a particular focus on the most marginalized tribal populations of Odisha.

Dr. Hariharan reflected on shared milestones with Dr. Parida, from mangrove restoration projects to initiatives in tribal health and agricultural resilience. His remarks underscored a shared belief that innovation must be inclusive to drive meaningful change.

As ILS continues to advance its scientific mission, Dr. Parida’s legacy remains a guiding force in shaping it's thoughts about bridging science and society.
