SCZCC Nagpur to Host Online Seminar on “Literature of Indian Music (In the Context of Folk Music)”

Mumbai, 28th June 2025

The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, Ministry of Culture, will organise an online seminar on “Literature of Indian Music (in the context of Folk Music)” on 30th June 2025 at 11:00 AM. The event will be streamed live on the Centre’s official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SCZCC/.

 

Renowned folk artists Rakesh Tiwari (Raipur, Chhattisgarh) and Sanjay Mahajan (Barwah, Madhya Pradesh) will be the keynote speakers. The seminar will delve into the literary aspects of Indian folk music, exploring its depth, diversity, and cultural significance.

Rakesh Tiwari, recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, is a veteran folk singer, writer, and theatre director from Chhattisgarh. With over 40 years of contribution to Indian folk arts, he is known for his narrative storytelling, stage productions, and commitment to preserving traditional performance forms.

Sanjay Mahajan, Director of Nateshwar Nritya Sansthan, Barwah, has been actively training students in Kathak and folk dance for 18 years. He has directed acclaimed dance-dramas like Main Hoon Barwah, Krishnaleela, and Jai Jai Madhya Pradesh, and played a significant role in popularising the traditional Gangaur Dance at national and international levels.

The event offers a valuable opportunity for music lovers, cultural scholars, and researchers to gain insights into the evolving landscape of Indian folk music and its literary richness.
