Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Nityananda Rai emphasized that economic empowerment and shared responsibilities are essential for integrating women into society's mainstream during his inauguration of the 11th National Conference on Women in Police at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy near Chennai.

Union Minister highlighted that the conference celebrates the dedication, courage, and service of women in law enforcement while fostering inter-state dialogue on best practices.

The conference theme 'Women Police and Empowerment' is particularly relevant as women officers not only help prevent crimes against women but also serve as powerful role models," said Union Minister Nityanand Rao.

The Central Government has launched several measures to strengthen women's participation in society, including increased recruitment of female police officers, establishment of dedicated women's police stations nationwide, financial assistance to women's self-help groups, skill development training programs, enhanced credit facilities, and entrepreneurship promotion initiatives. These programs, implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, aim to advance women's economic development across the country.

The two-day conference (May 13-14, 2025) is being organized by the Tamil Nadu Police Department in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development at the Tamil Nadu Police Academy in Oonamanchery. Attended by Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Shri Shankar Jiwal and other senior officials, the event has brought together 140 women police officers from Tamil Nadu and numerous others from various states and central organizations.

Participants are discussing recruitment and training strategies, uniform standards, professional development opportunities, work-life balance solutions, wellness and mental health measures, vision for women's empowerment, and best practices in preventing human trafficking. The conference includes specialized workshops addressing practical approaches to women's development in both urban and rural contexts.
