The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has achieved a historic milestone in the financial year 2024-25, recording a turnover of Rs 1.70 lakh crore during the period. This milestone in the country's journey towards self-sufficiency, has been achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the hard work of millions of rural artisans, said KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar, while releasing the provisional figures related to this at his office in New Delhi. Shri Manoj Kumar said that Mahatma Gandhi's legacy of Khadi has evolved into a strong symbol of national unity and this will significantly contribute to India's leap towards becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047.
In the last decade, KVIC has achieved phenomenal growth in both production and sales. Production has increased almost fourfold from ₹26,109.07 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1,16,599.75 crore in 2024-25 (an increase of 347%). Sales have increased almost fivefold from ₹31,154.19 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1,70,551.37 crore in 2024-25 (an increase of 447%). Employment has increased by 49.23%. The sector now employs 1.94 crore people, up from 1.30 crore in 2013-14.
Key achievements in 2024-25

New Delhi Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan's turnover reached ₹110.01 crore. This is double compared to the turnover marked in 2013-14. Over 10 lakh units set up under PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) have provided employment to 90 lakh people.
With the aim of providing employment to maximum number of people in rural areas under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana scheme, KVIC has doubled the budget allocation for rural employment initiatives to ₹60 crore in 2025-26. This has helped it achieve significant milestones. It was ₹25.65 crore in the financial year 2021-22. 2,87,752 tools including power-operated pottery wheels, sewing machines, beehives and sandalwood machines were distributed. Self-reliance in rural India was increased through training and equipment sharing.
KVIC has made significant progress in empowering women artisans. Out of 7.43 lakh trainees in the last decade, 57.45% are women. Out of 5 lakh Khadi artisans, 80% are women. Wages of artisans have increased by 275% in the last 11 years. There has been a 100% increase in the last three years alone.
Shri Manoj Kumar said that KVIC’s achievements are crucial in realising the country’s economic aspirations and making the country the third largest global economy. KVIC will continue to serve as a foundation for rural development, creating economic opportunities for artisans, achieving self-sufficiency and driving sustainable growth. Shri Manoj Kumar said that these achievements strengthen the legacy of Khadi as an element of transformation and a pillar of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
