As part of the year-long celebrations commemorating 75 years of the National Sample Survey (NSS), the Regional Office Mumbai, Field Operations Division (FOD), under the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), organized a community-level discussion and awareness programme in the rural area of Village Ambe Turfe Waje, District Raigad, Maharashtra, on 16^th April, 2025.

The programme aimed to highlight the benefits of NSS surveys and foster community understanding and support for official data collection exercises. Officials interacted with villagers and local stakeholders to explain the objectives, significance, and impact of large-scale household surveys such as the Household Consumer Expenditure Survey (HCES), Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), and other socio-economic surveys conducted under the NSS.

Discussions emphasized how data collected under the NSS framework plays a vital role in shaping national policies, monitoring poverty and employment trends, and designing welfare programmes. The visiting team also assured the community about the confidentiality of the data provided and the importance of their cooperation in strengthening the country’s statistical system.

The villagers showed active participation, raised relevant queries, and appreciated the government’s effort in bringing awareness directly to their community. Local authorities also acknowledged the outreach as a step forward in strengthening trust between citizens and the national statistical system. This community discussion marks an important milestone in the series of outreach activities being conducted by RO Mumbai under the celebration of 75 Years of the National Sample Survey, reaffirming the commitment of NSO to inclusive and participatory data collection.

A team of around 30 officials, including Assistant Directors, Senior Statistical Officers (SSOs), Junior Statistical Officers (JSOs), Survey Supervisors (SSs), and Survey Enumerators (SEs), actively participated in this grassroots engagement initiative.
