DG-CSIR inaugurates Modern World-Class Experimental Salt Works on the occasion of CSMCRI, Bhavnagar’s 72nd Foundation Day

The Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr. N Kalaiselvi, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Experimental Salt Works facility at the Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) in Bhavnagar today. The inauguration coincided with the celebration of CSMCRI’s 72nd Foundation Day, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s journey of scientific innovation and excellence.

Spread across more than 100 acres, this world-class facility is designed to optimize salt production through innovative and advanced technologies. It serves as a platform for demonstrating new techniques aimed at enhancing salt yield, managing resources efficiently, and mitigating climate impact. The facility incorporates cutting-edge tools for precision-controlled brine flow, effective rainwater management, recovery of minerals, and maximizing the use of solar energy.

Dr. (Mrs.) N. Kalaiselvi, DG-CSIR & Secretary, DSIR emphasized the importance of CSIR-CSMCRI’s contributions, stating, “CSMCRI has been a beacon of scientific progress, and this new the Modern Experimental Salt Works facility will further strengthen its mission to innovate and lead in the field of salt and marine chemistry.” She further emphasized the transformative impact of this pioneering facility on India's salt industry, highlighting its role in advancing innovative research and sustainable salt production techniques. "It is a matter of great pride for the entire CSIR that in the Amrit Kaal of Azadi, CSMCRI has established this world-class scientific facility", she added.

On the occasion, Dr. Kannan Srinivasan, Director of CSIR-CSMCRI, told that the inauguration of the Modern Experimental Salt Works represents our commitment to cutting-edge research and sustainable practices in the field of salt and marine chemicals research. “This facility will enhance our capabilities, fostering innovations that will benefit both the scientific community and industry and in turn society at large” he said.

‘As the part of foundation Day Celebrations, an ‘Open Day’ was organized in which exhibitions showcasing pioneering research of the institute were demonstrated which were visited by many school students under CSIR-Jigyasa umbrella’ Dr. Biswajit Ganguly, the chairperson of foundation day celebrations committee informed. The Foundation Day lecture was delivered by Prof. S. Sivaram, Professor Emeritus & INSA Emeritus Scientist, IISER Pune. The celebration was attended by prominent researchers, industry leaders, and dignitaries, including Dr. K.J. Sreeram, Director, CSIR-CLRI, Chennai, Dr. Kanti Bhooshan Pandey, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Dr. Bhoomi Andharia, Shri Biranchi Sarang and many others.
