In a landmark moment, the Hon’ble Attorney General of India, Mr. R. Venkataramani, inaugurated the pioneering “Masters in Financial and Economic Crimes” — a first-of-its-kind flagship program by Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Addressing a distinguished audience, Mr. Venkataramani reflected on the intricate balance between freedom and regulation in modern society. While freedom of thought is the cornerstone of human progress, he cautioned against the unchecked expansion of economic and technological liberties — particularly when interpreted narrowly in self-interest. When left unregulated, these freedoms can fuel the rise of economic crimes and empower malign elements in society. He emphasized that detection is the first line of defence, and without strong regulatory frameworks, control remains elusive.

Following this, Prof. (Dr.) Bimal Patel, Vice-Chancellor of RRU, emphasized the growing importance of financial and economic security as an essential pillar of national security. He eloquently traced the vision behind the program — from the pressing need to address complex financial threats to its alignment with India's broader national goals of safeguarding the economy. Prof. Patel detailed how this Master’s program is designed to equip future leaders, investigators, and policy-makers with the expertise needed to tackle evolving economic crimes in a fast-changing global landscape.
Dr. Niraj Gupta, Head, School of Financial Management (SoFM), Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), also addressed the participants during the course. He provided valuable insights into various concepts related to financial and economic crimes and emphasized the growing need for structured learning in this domain.
Mr. Himanshu Garg, IPS, AIG (Administration), PHQ, and a participant in the MFEC course, highlighted the critical relevance of the program in today’s dynamic crime landscape. He noted that the course is highly significant in equipping officers and professionals with the capabilities to understand and counter the complexities of modern-day financial crimes. According to him, as issues like money laundering and crypto-related offenses become more intricate, such a course will empower participants to deal effectively with the nuances and threats posed by these emerging challenges.
Dr. Virendra Gupta, Vice President, Tata Communications, also part of the MFEC cohort, expressed his appreciation for being associated with this pioneering initiative. He remarked that with the rise in financial and economic crimes along with the increasing digitalization of the economy and society, this course is incredibly relevant and timely. This course is very well structured and provides legal knowledge, financial forensic techniques and impact of technology in this area. This course will be very helpful in equipping to prevent such kind of crimes and making our ecomony more resilient and financially secure.
This program is not just academic; it is a strategic initiative aligned with India’s vision of a secure, resilient, and economically empowered nation.
The program is designed exclusively for working professionals, this pioneering program is the first of its kind, seamlessly integrating theoretical foundations with hands-on practical exposure. Curated by senior officials from renowned organizations such as ED, FIU, RBI, NIA, and other eminent bodies, the program is delivered by seasoned professionals from CBI, SEBI, SFIO, and other distinguished organizations, as well as by the honoured academicians from RRU, IICA, IIM Ahmedabad, and several other prestigious institutions.
