Wayanad, 8 April 2025: Wayanad district is all set to welcome its first Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) at the Kalpetta Head Post Office, bringing immense relief to residents who previously had to travel long distances to neighbouring districts for passport and related services.

The POPSK will be inaugurated on April 9, 2025 (Wednesday), at 10:00 AM by Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Hon'ble Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of External Affairs. He will be joined by Shri George Kurian, Hon’ble Union Minister of State, Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri O. R. Kelu, Hon’ble Minister for the Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, Government of Kerala and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Wayanad.

This facility will be the second POPSK under the jurisdiction of the Regional Passport Office, Kozhikode, and the 447th POPSK in the country. Initially, POPSK Kalpetta will serve 50 applicants per day, with plans to scale up to 120 applications daily. Appointments can be booked via the Passport Seva portal (www.passportindia.gov.in) or the mPassport Seva mobile app (available on Android and iOS).

The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Kozhikode, serves the five northern districts of Kerala—Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod—and the Mahe region of Puducherry. It currently operates five PSKs and one POPSK, and now adds Kalpetta POPSK to its network to further enhance accessibility for the public.

This important initiative aims to bring passport services closer to the people of Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency and nearby areas, in line with the Government of India’s citizen-centric service delivery approach.
