VAMNICOM & CICTAB Launch Agribusiness Training Program for Defense Personnel


50 Officers from Army, Navy & Air Force to Attend Agribusiness Training from March 24 to May 16, 2025

VAMNICOM (Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management) and CICTAB (Centre for International Cooperation & Training in Agricultural Banking), Pune, have jointly launched the "Innovations and Agribusiness Management" training program. This two-month program is exclusively designed for 50 officers from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, including 27 from the Army, 9 from the Navy, and 14 from the Air Force. The initiative aims to prepare defense personnel for agribusiness opportunities after retirement.

The program was inaugurated in the presence of Registrar, VAMNICOM, Dr. Shantanu Ghosh, and Program Director, Dr. Mahesh Kadam. The inaugural session featured special addresses by Brigadier Rohit Mehta, ADG, DRZ (South).

In his address, Dr. Shantanu Ghosh, emphasized that this program is designed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the agribusiness sector. Brigadier Rohit Mehta highlighted that the training would not only open opportunities in agribusiness for defense personnel but also support their journey towards self-reliance.

The training program, scheduled from 24th March 2025, to 16th May 2025, will include practical workshops, case studies, field visits, and interactive classroom sessions led by industry and academic experts. This initiative marks a significant step in fostering entrepreneurship, rural development, and self-reliance in agriculture at the national level.

 

About VAMNICOM:

VAMNICOM (Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management) a National Institute under the Ministry of Cooperation having a core mandate for stakeholders in farm and nonfarm sectors focusing on the livestock, dairy & fisheries sector. In the year 1964, a high-level group appointed by the Government of India under the Chairmanship of late Prof. D. R. Gadgil to assess the training needs of the cooperative sector recommended the setting up of a National Institute. This Institute was envisaged to undertake the training of senior personnel in the cooperative institutions/departments, conduct fundamental/applied research and provide consultancy services, organize courses in business management for senior personnel in cooperative business organizations and train the youth on various facets of Management.

 

About Directorate General Resettlement (DGR):

The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) is an Inter Service organization functioning directly under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (Ministry of Defence). In order to maintain a youthful profile of the Armed Forces, approximately 60,000 service personnel are retired/released every year at comparatively young age. Majority of the service personnel at the time of retirement are at an age where they have numerous unfinished domestic responsibilities, which necessitate their taking up a second occupation. DGR assists Ex-Servicemen to train and acquire additional skills with a strong emphasis on evolving requirements of corporate and industry and facilitate their resettlement through a second career.
