The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT Tiruchirappalli) marked the grand conclusion of its International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations, organized by the Women's Cell, with a memorable valedictory function held today. The program commenced with an invocation, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. V.K. Karthika, a member of the Women’s Cell, who spoke about the significance of celebrating women and womanhood while accelerating action to build a community of trust, inclusivity, equity and friendship.
The Chief Guest, Ms. N. Kamini IPS, Commissioner of Police, Tiruchirappalli, was felicitated with a memento by Prof. G. Aghila, Director of NIT Trichy. The Director, in her presidential address, emphasized the importance of cultivating fearlessness in the pursuit of one's goals. She encouraged the audience to focus on their aspirations and not be overly concerned with external judgments.
In her keynote address, Ms. N. Kamini, IPS, began by referencing the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, highlighting its commitment to justice, equality, and the empowerment of all citizens. She spoke about the growing participation of rural women in Panchayats and their increasing presence in leadership roles, which has been significantly supported by reservations. Ms. Kamini also shed light on various crimes committed against women and children, such as dowry harassment and acid attacks, providing the gathering with a comprehensive understanding of how law enforcement addresses such issues. Additionally, she introduced the 'Kaaval Uthavi' app, a valuable tool for citizens to quickly and easily reach out to the police for assistance. She invited one of her colleagues to explain the app's features and how it can facilitate faster and more efficient communication with law enforcement. Her address not only highlighted the challenges but also inspired optimism, reinforcing the belief that with trust, resilience, and collective efforts, we can work towards creating a safer, more equitable world for all.
Prof. P. Kalaichelvi, Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), offered felicitations, spoke about the importance of ‘accelerating action’ and highlighted how it is already a part of our daily routine. She underscored the critical importance of maintaining one's physical and mental well-being. She encouraged the gathering to prioritize self-care, recognizing that personal health is fundamental to effectively contributing to societal progress and overcoming challenges.
Following this, the winners of various events conducted for the International Women’s Day celebrations were felicitated with prizes. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Prof. S. Velmathi, Chairperson of the Women’s Cell, who expressed gratitude to all participants, organizers, and guests for making the event a resounding success.
