Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Organizes ‘Manak Milan’ to Promote Quality Standards and Foster Industry Collaboration

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office-I organized ‘Manak Milan’ on 12th March 2025 at Mumbai. The event aimed to enhance collaboration between BIS and various industry stakeholders while promoting quality standards across sectors.
The session was presided over by Shri Sanjay Goswami, Scientist-G and Deputy Director General of the Western Region, who emphasized the crucial role of standardization in ensuring product quality, safety, and consumer confidence. He reassured attendees of BIS’s continued support to industries through awareness initiatives, technical assistance, and training programs. Shri Goswami also highlighted the importance of Quality Control Orders in ensuring that only high-quality, safe, and reliable products reach consumers. BIS officials also addressed industry queries regarding licensing procedures, product testing, and regulatory updates, reaffirming their commitment to facilitating industries' smooth transition to mandatory compliance frameworks.

Key issues discussed during the event included the upcoming Quality Control Orders (QCOs) and their potential impact on industries, the benefits of obtaining BIS certification to enhance consumer trust and market credibility, as well as challenges industries face in meeting BIS standards. Solutions to streamline certification processes were also explored to ensure ease of doing business while maintaining compliance with national and international quality standards. The event facilitated a valuable platform for industry representatives to raise concerns, seek expert advice from BIS officials and engage in meaningful dialogue on regulatory updates, product certification and technical compliance requirements. Other distinguished attendees included Shri Pinaki Gupta, Scientist-E and Head, Mumbai Branch Office-I, Mrs. Prema Sajini, Scientist-E and Head, Mumbai Branch Office-II, and Dr. Anil Kapri, Scientist-E and Head, Western Regional Laboratory. The event brought together over 15 industry associations from Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane and Pune Districts. Notable industry associations such as the Indian Chemical Association, Bombay Metal Manufacturers Association and Toy Manufacturers Association participated, contributing to enriching discussions on a range of critical topics.

The ‘Manak Milan’ event reflects BIS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen industry collaboration, bridge knowledge gaps, and build a robust quality ecosystem. By providing direct access to BIS experts, the initiative equips businesses to align with quality standards and navigate the evolving regulatory landscape, ensuring they remain competitive in both national and global markets.
