NIFT Gandhinagar Presented Spectacular Fashion Showcased Highlighting Sustainability and Cultural Heritage

NIFT Gandhinagar hosted Spectrum 2025, its annual cultural and sports fest, celebrated India's indigenous heritage, creativity, and sustainability under the theme 'Dharohar.' The event highlighted the wisdom of indigenous communities like the Munda, Bhil, Gadaba, and Bhotia tribes, emphasizing eco-conscious living and responsible fashion.

Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director, NIFT Gandhinagar, emphasized the significance of the fashion show, where designers from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar presented collections blending sustainability with artistic storytelling. The event reinforced the seamless coexistence of style and sustainability through ethical sourcing and environmental consciousness.

The Fashion Show: A Celebration of Ethical Creativity

The fashion competition featured remarkable sequences, evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges—Nikita Mehta (Founder & Creative Director, Chakor) and Anil Meena (Director, The Dapper House). Each sequence was a testament to sustainable fashion, utilizing upcycled materials, traditional techniques, and innovative approaches to ethical design.

The Winning Collection, 'Punar Vastra' by NIF Global, stole the show with exquisite garments crafted from discarded sarees from household women. This collection redefined sustainability by breathing new life into old textiles while honouring craftsmanship and eco-conscious creativity.

The Runner-up Collection, 'Roots and Rhythms',  by GLS took the audience on a journey through India's tribal heritage, celebrating resilience, warrior spirit, and traditional artistry through a visually compelling narrative.

Beyond the winners, six other teams presented outstanding collections, each with a unique take on sustainability and storytelling:

  • Team Sangam (NID) – 'Liminal Threads: Between Worlds' explored the intersection of tradition and reinvention, creating fluid garments embodying transformation's essence.
  • Team Refuse Refuse (Amor) – 'Refuse Refuse' championed sustainability with a name playing on both the rejection of waste and the necessity of environmental responsibility.
  • Team Eco Vogue (GLS FOPA) – 'Sustainability and Plastic Pollution' delivered a powerful message on the devastating effects of plastic pollution.
  • Team Daybreak (SOID) – 'Kala Cotton and the Colors of Dawn' showcased handcrafted textiles and natural dyes through serene and intricate silhouettes.
  • Team Rebel Roadwear (Parul University of Design) expressed raw energy and self-expression in an ode to contemporary youth culture.
  • Team Anantam (NIF Global) – 'Paracas Heritage & Global Tribal Influences' merged Peruvian heritage with tribal aesthetics, featuring bold motifs and cultural symbolism.

The Vishesh Education Center for Specially Challenged Children participated in an event where students showcased their talents and creativity. Prof. Dr. Sameer Sood, Director, NIFT Gandhinagar highlighted the institute's commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. The event celebrated the abilities of specially challenged children, fostering confidence and self-expression, and emphasized accessibility, awareness, and equal opportunities in fashion and design.

Spectrum 2025 emphasized preserving tradition while embracing change by focusing on sustainability, culture, and innovation. The event's theme, 'Dharohar', noted the need for responsible evolution and creative reinvention. It highlighted the potential of fashion to transform and honour past legacies. As NIFT Gandhinagar continues to promote sustainability in fashion, Spectrum 2025 serves as a beacon of ethical creativity and a testament to the future of fashion.
