International Mother Language Day 2025 at the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) and CSIR Madras Complex (CMC) during 20-24 February 2025

The International Mother Language Day has been celebrated with great enthusiasm at the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) and CSIR Madras Complex (CMC) during 20-24 February 2025. The whole programme comprises of four sessions - an inaugural programme, presentation of research activities, technical / literary talks in mother language, cultural programme and valedictory sessions. The inaugural programme was held on 20 February 2025 at 2.30 PM at the Vigyan Auditorium of the CSIR Campus.

Prof. Karu. Nagarajan, President, Tamil Academy, SRM University, Kattankulathur & Former Member-Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education, Chennai, was the chief guest of the function.
The second session of International Mother Language Day 2025 - presentation of research activities and technical/literary talks in mother language - was organized on 21.2.2025 at 10 AM. A total of 20 presentations were made - nine in the Tamil language, three in Hindi, two each in Telugu, Malayalam, Odia and one each in Kannada and Marathi, by the scientists and staff of CSIR-SERC and CMC.

The third session comprised of cultural programmes and was held on 21.2.2025 at 2 PM. Drama, Singing, Speech and Poem reading were organized. The staff members of CSIR-SERC and CMC participated enthusiastically in all the programmes.
The valedictory session of the International Mother Language Day 2025 was held on 24.2.2025 at 3:30 PM. Thiruvarur Nagaichuvai Navalar Pulavar R. Shanmugavadivel was the chief guest of the valedictory function. Dr. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CMC delivered the welcome address. In her address, she highlighted on the importance of preserving the vast knowledge in one’s mother language and said that mother language is the foundation for the overall growth of an individual.

Dr. J Prabhakar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-SERC, briefed on the various sessions organized as a part of the International Mother Language Day 2025 at the CSIR campus during 20-24 February 2025. Shri R.D. Sathish Kumar, introduced the chief guest to the audience.
Pulavar Shanmugavadivel delivered the International Mother Language Day special address. In his address, he spoke on the significance of mother language and its necessity and relevance in everyday life. He also pointed out that mother language is the one that comes naturally and one can learn and understand other languages easily only if he/she has strong foundation in their mother language. Quoting various literary texts, he also spoke on the illustrious tradition of the Tamil language.
The chief guest also presented mementos to participants who made technical presentations in their mother language and those who had participated in the cultural events. Dr. Alok Kumar Ramakrishna Paul, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CECRI proposed vote of thanks.
