Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai seize Cocaine/Methaqualone worth Rs. 10.22 Crore

Customs officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), Mumbai seized 1.022 kgs of suspected cocaine/Methaqualone, with an illicit market value of approximately Rs. 10.22 Crore. One passenger was arrested in connection with the seizure.

On 16th February 2025, a passenger arriving from Entebbe, Uganda, on Ugandan Airlines flight no. UR 430 was intercepted by customs officers. During questioning about his travel details and the purpose of his visit to Mumbai, the passenger displayed signs of nervousness. Upon further investigation, the passenger admitted to ingesting capsules containing a white crumbled substance, suspected to be a narcotic drug under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Following the admission, the passenger was taken before the Hon'ble Judicial Magistrate, who ordered the recovery of the substance under medical supervision. Over the next three days, the passenger purged 84 capsules, which contained a total of 1.022 kgs of white crumbled substance, purported to be either cocaine or Methaqualone. The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 and investigations are ongoing.
