Government e Marketplace (GeM) is participating in the ongoing 9th Edition of India Industrial Fair, being held at NSIC Ground in Rajkot from 2nd to 5th February, 2025. Organised by Laghu Udyog Bharti, the event is envisioned to enhance business opportunities for local MSEs in Business-to-Business (B2B), Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and Business-to-Government domain.
As a part of its outreach initiative, GeM is carrying out a comprehensive onboarding drive at its pavilion. On the first day of the event itself, more than 350 local entrepreneurs availed instant handholding support and joined the GeM ecosystem. Nearly 5,000+ individuals visited the GeM pavilion to learn more about the features of the portal and how the platform is helping small-scale sellers to showcase and sell their products and services directly to more than 1.6 Lakh Government Buyers. Queries and challenges faced by existing stakeholders were promptly resolved to facilitate ease of doing business on the portal.
“Through such targeted interventions, GeM aims to create awareness about new avenues of business among Indian entrepreneurs, while simplifying access to government e-tendering for last-mile sellers. Driven by our mission to create an inclusive marketplace, we are determined to ease access to public procurement opportunities, spurring the hyperlocal economies,” stated Shri Ajit B Chavan, Additional CEO & Chief Seller Officer, GeM.
“We invite Rajkot’s flourishing industries and MSEs to visit the GeM pavilion at the India Industrial Fair and explore new avenues of scaling business at India’s largest e-marketplace for government buyers,” added Shri Chavan.
As of January 2025, GeM has clocked a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of ₹ 4.09 Lakh Crore within 10 months of the current Fiscal Year 2024 – 25. Notably, nearly 40% of the total order value transacted on the platform has been fulfilled by MSEs. Through smart marketplace filters, purchase preferences and exclusive benefits, GeM is empowering growth of MSEs in India, further reinforcing the Government of India’s vision of a Viksit Bharat @ 2047!
About GeM:
Government e Marketplace (GeM) is a unified digital platform that facilitates end-to-end procurement of goods and services by various Central / State Ministries, departments, organisations, public sector undertakings (PSUs) Panchayats, Cooperatives etc. Our Prime Minister’s concerted efforts to harness the power of digital platforms to achieve ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’ led to the genesis of GeM in 2016. The online portal was established with a clear objective to eliminate age-old manual public procurement processes that were riddled with inefficiencies and corruption.
GeM provides a paperless, cashless and contactless ecosystem, covering the entire gamut of procurement process, right from vendor registration and item selection by buyers to receipt of goods and facilitation of timely payments. GeM was envisioned to utilise the agility and speed that come along with a digital platform created with a strategic intent to reinvigorate public procurement systems and bring about a lasting change for the underserved as well as the nation.
