DRI Mumbai intercepts drug smuggling attempt, seizes 2.2 Kgs of Cocaine worth Rs. 21.97 Crores

Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai intercepted three Ugandan nationals attempting to smuggle narcotic drugs into India. The suspects had arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai on a flight from Entebbe, Uganda. Upon questioning, all three individuals admitted to ingesting capsules containing narcotic drugs for the purpose of smuggling. The suspects were produced before the Hon'ble Magistrate and as per the court order, were admitted to a nearby government hospital for medical observation. The suspects purged a total of 170 capsules, which contained 2197 grams of cocaine, with an estimated market value of Rs. 21.97 crores in the illicit trade. The narcotics were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. As a result, all three individuals were arrested and charged under the provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is in progress.
