Shri V. Somanna visits Banaras Locomotive Works
BLW Visit: A Major Step Towards 'Make in India - Make for the World'

The Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, visited the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW). During his visit, he appreciated BLW's innovations, locomotive production capabilities, and its significant global contributions in realizing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

On his arrival at BLW, Shri Somanna was warmly welcomed by General Manager Shri Naresh Pal Singh. During the workshop tour, the Minister inspected the New Loco Frame Shop, Loco Assembly Shop, Traction Assembly Shop, Truck Machine Shop, and Loco Test Shop. He examined the electric locomotive and experienced its technical features by sitting in the driver’s cab. After the workshop visit, he planted a sapling in the administrative building premises, promoting the message of a green environment.
Subsequently, in a meeting held at the Hall of Fame in the Administrative Building, General Manager Shri Naresh Pal Singh welcomed him with a sapling, and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer Shri Sushil Kumar Srivastava presented a detailed information through Power Point presentation, highlighting BLW's historic achievements, technical expertise, and future plans. At the end of the meeting, the General Manager presented a memento to the Hon’ble Minister.
In his address, Shri Somanna said, “BLW’s production system is a remarkable example of modern technology and high quality. BLW stands as a key pillar of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission. The dedication and hard work of the officers and employees here are bringing global recognition to India.” He appreciated BLW’s successful export of locomotives to 11 countries, including Mozambique, Sudan, and Malaysia, describing it as a significant step towards the 'Make in India - Make for the World' initiative.

On this occasion, the BLW Employees Council, led by Joint Secretary Shri Shrikant Yadav, and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Association, led by President Shri Sanjay Anand, submitted memorandums to the hon’ble Minister. Chief guest Shri Somanna listened to the concerns of the employee representatives and assured them of all possible efforts to resolve their issues.
General Manager Shri Naresh Pal Singh stated, "BLW is the leading locomotive production unit of Indian Railways, having manufactured over 10,500 locomotives to date, elevating Indian Railways to new heights of excellence." He described the Minister’s inspirational visit as a source of renewed energy for BLW.
The event was graced by the presence of Principal Heads of Departments and senior officials. The program was conducted and concluded with a vote of thanks by Chief Mechanical Engineer, Production & Marketing, Shri Suneel Kumar.
