Shri Manoj Kumar, Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, on Sunday distributed 260 electric potter's wheels in the presence of Shri Vittal Somanna Halgekar, MLA from Khanapur and other dignitaries at a distinctive distribution event held at Central Village Pottery Institute (CVPI), Khanapur. Potter's wheels were distributed to 140potters of Karnataka under Divisional Office,Hubli and 120 potter's wheels were distributed to potters from other states, viz: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Kerala, and Puducherry. These beneficiaries have completed four months of pottery training at CVPI.
Chairman KVIC Shri Manoj Kumar while addressing the event said that clay art is an integral part of our cultural heritage. Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given a new lease of life to the potters. Under his leadership, Khadi and Village Industries have become a symbol of self-reliance, Swadeshi, and environmental protection. He informed that CVPI, Khanapur, has been playing a prominent role in the development of clay art for the last 60 years. The institute has trained more than 1 lakh potters and has put them on the path of self-reliance. The four-month pottery training, Terracotta art training, and master trainer program conducted here have brought a big transformation in potters' lives. He informed that under the Potter Empowerment Scheme, KVIC has so far distributed more than 30 thousand advanced electric wheels to potters.
Chairman KVIC during the interaction with artisans saidthat under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of the Ministry of MSME, 'New Khadi of New India' is setting new paradigms and promoting 'Vocal for Local' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' campaign. He informed that 'KhadiKranti' under 'Viksit Bharat Abhiyan' has increased the sale of Khadi and Village Industries to over Rs. 1.55 lakh crore in the last 10 years, while 10.17 lakh new people have got employment in the last financial year.
During his visit, the Chairman inspected the CVPI and interacted with the trainees and beneficiaries. He appreciated the efforts of the institute and assured all possible help to take the clay art to the global level. Representatives of Khadi Institutions, Khadi workers, artisans, beneficiaries, officers, and employees of KVIC were present in the program.
