ITEC Programme on Preventing the Menace of Human Trafficking- Issues, Challenges and Prevention (8th January 2025)

Rashtriya Raksha University hosted a group of 30 officials from 22 countries for the Inaugural Event of a 2 weeks MEA- ITEC Training on “Preventing the Menace of Human Trafficking- Issues, Challenges and Prevention” on 8th January 2025. Dr. Dimple T. Raval, Director School of Criminal Law and Military Law (SCLML) expressed her sincere gratitude to the Dr. PM Nair and Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel for their unwavering guidance and support for guiding her to conduct the training. Furthermore, extending a warm welcome to all the participants coming from 4 continents and 8 time zones of the world to learn, develop and grow through extensive sessions on the topics related to human trafficking and security. The participants includes senior officials from law enforcement agencies, immigration departments, and intelligence units.
Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor, RRU expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs for their supplementing efforts towards Rashtriya Raksha University’s capacity building initiatives by building bridges across the globe. Applauding the recent launch of BHARATPOL, a centralized digital policing platform, as a revolutionary step in curbing transnational cross-border crimes. Additionally, recommending the establishment of a centralized database to track human trafficking cases effectively, which could be shared with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The said training program by RRU is a continuing endeavor in upholding India’s mission to eradicate trafficking under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The government’s "zero tolerance" policy is reinforced through intensified law enforcement and comprehensive strategies.
Furthermore, highlighting the recent successes including NIA raids in January 2025 targeting a trafficking and cyber-slavery network linked to Lao PDR and digital crimes by Chinese scammers. In December 2024, Agartala police, in collaboration with BSF, arrested traffickers and Bangladeshi nationals for illegal immigration. Additionally, a major operation in November 2024 dismantled an international drug cartel, seizing 700 kg of methamphetamine and disrupting trafficking networks. These efforts demonstrate India's unwavering resolve to combat organized crime.
In addition, Prof. Patel provided a critical analysis of UNODC - The Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2024. Also, the major issues, challenges, legal framework, enforcement mechanisms, recent initiatives and policy development of Togo, Philippines, Bhutan, Ghana, Malaysia, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, Slovak Republic, Chile, Jamaica, Algeria, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Suriname, Nigeria, Malawi, Uzbekistan and Ethiopia.
Dr. P.M. Nair, Founder- Convener- NRCHT, an expert in anti-human trafficking, delivered the key note address for the Inaugural Event of the 2 weeks MEA-ITEC training on “Preventing the Menace of Human Trafficking- Issues, Challenges and Prevention” on 8th January 2025. He alleged that human trafficking is a severe violation of human rights and a form of modern-day slavery. Further advocating towards a holistic approach, focusing on prevention, protection, and prosecution. The establishment of Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) across India, empowering thousands of officials through training programs and appreciated Vice Chancellor, RRU’s efforts to actively contribute in rule based global order by organising such high impact programme on Human Trafficking which incorporates officials from 22 countries.
