Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the 'Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan 2025' in Mumbai today. In a symbolic gesture of commitment in the "Suraksha Reloaded" event organized by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Union Minister Shri Gadkari, along with all attendees, took pledge for Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan, reaffirming a shared responsibility to instill sensitivity and empathy among youth—the future stewards of road safety. Shri Gadkari also interacted with young school students from 9th standard to 12th standard who were present and explained to them about road safety and its importance in building a safer future.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gadkari said, “Today, at the 'Suraksha Reloaded' event under Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan 2025, we came together to inspire our youth—the future stewards of road safety—with a shared commitment to empathy, awareness, and responsibility on every journey”. “Every Action Counts, Every Ride Matters”, emphasized Shri Gadkari.  The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister urged, “If we follow the rules of the road, then there will be no accidents in the future”. He informed that more than 10,000 children, aged 18 years old or less, had lost their lives in road accidents last year. 66.4 percent of road accident victims are between the ages of 18 and 45, he added. He noted that number of road accidents are increasing. Shri Gadkari also highlighted the agony faced by the families of road accident victims. Many of these accidents happen in front of schools and colleges, he added.

Shri Gadkari urged the young students who were present to carefully cross roads while going to school. He also warned the youngsters about underage driving, which again caused 35,000 deaths. The parents also need to be aware about the law by which a case is registered on the parents that if a minor child has caused an accident. Shri Gadkari urged that elders should speak about road safety with children in the family.

He said that lives of many people can be saved by following the rules for road safety, which are very simple, like:

Do not talk on mobile.

If there is a red signal, then stop.

If you want to ride a scooter, then wear a helmet.

If you sit in the car, then put a belt on the front and back.

Noted musician Shri Shankar Mahadevan and the Shillong Chamber Choir, performed in the "Suraksha Reloaded" event.
