BIS successfully organized Drishti - 2024, the first-ever national-level workshop at Ahmedabad

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under Ministry of Consumer affairs food and Public Distribution, successfully organized Drishti - 2024, the first-ever national-level workshop at Ahmedabad on 27 December 2024 exclusively intended for faculty members of the Ayurveda Colleges. This first-of-its-kind workshop was aimed at empowering faculty members to act as torchbearers for standardization within their institutions.

The event witnessed the participation of nearly 85 faculty members from Ayurveda colleges across the country, making it a significant milestone in the journey of promoting quality, safety, and global recognition for Ayurveda.

The workshop’s theme, inspired by BIS's slogan “Manakah Patha Pradarshaka” underscored the importance of standards in integrating traditional wisdom with modern scientific rigor.

Speaking at the event, Vaidya Jayant Deopujari, Chairperson of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) said, "This workshop is an important step in bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern-day requirements through effective standardization practices. It is our collective responsibility to position Ayurveda as a globally trusted system of healthcare."

During the inaugural session, Shri S.K. Kanogia, Head of the AYUSH Department, reaffirmed BIS’s commitment to promoting quality and safety in Ayurveda through robust standardization practices. He emphasized that standards are the foundation for trust, enabling global recognition of Ayurveda as a reliable healthcare system. Shri Kanogia further highlighted the importance of collaboration with academia in driving these efforts forward.

The event featured thought-provoking sessions by leading experts, including Dr. Sulochana Bhat, Dr. Saket Ram T, and Shri Vinod Saraf, who spoke on fostering multi-departmental collaborations, leveraging artificial intelligence for standardization, and the industry's role in driving quality. Participants engaged in open discussions, sharing innovative ideas for standardization in the field of Ayurveda.

Dr Raghavendra Naik, Scientist C, BIS presented a comprehensive way forward, emphasizing interdisciplinary research, industry partnerships, capacity-building initiatives to develop a foundation for stronger collaboration among academia, industry, and policymakers.
