In significant operations against drug trafficking, acting on specific intelligence, the officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ahmedabad Zonal Unit, intercepted an Indian national upon their arrival from Bangkok at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad.
A thorough search of the passenger's check-in baggage revealed four cloth bags containing ten airtight polythene packets. Inside these packets, a greenish, lumpy substance was discovered. Field testing confirmed the substance to be cannabis, commonly known as marijuana.
The total weight of the seized hydroponic Cannabis was found to be a staggering 9.2 kg. The value of the narcotic substance in the illicit market is estimated to be more than 9 cr. In another operation of DRI with Customs at Ahmedabad International Airport, a Thai national was intercepted with 6 kg of Hydroponic weed and was subsequently arrested.
Hydroponic weeds, including marijuana, are cultivated using hydroponic techniques, which involve growing plants in water-based nutrient solutions. This method allows for rapid growth and high potency.
The apprehended individual has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The DRI is actively pursuing further investigations to uncover the source of the drugs and identify any potential networks involved in the smuggling operation.
The DRI remains steadfast in its efforts to combat the illicit drug trade. This significant seizure underscores the agency's relentless efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect the nation's security and public health.
