A team of women media professionals embarked on a seven-day media tour to Gujarat on December 16, organized by the Press Information Bureau, Thiruvananthapuram. The tour, aimed at showcasing  Gujarat's diverse culture and developmental strides, commenced with a visit to the iconic Statue of Unity on the first day.

Standing tall at 182 meters, the Statue of Unity is the world's tallest statue and a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's role in unifying the country. Last year, the monument attracted 5.1 million visitors. The team was also honored to meet Udit Agarwal, CEO of the Statue of Unity Authority, who shared insights into the statue’s significance and its surrounding development projects.

In a notable display of women empowerment, the region is home to three women self-help groups that manage canteens, cafes, and shops. These groups, modeled after Kerala's Kudumbashree initiative, provide economic independence and entrepreneurial opportunities for women in the area, making them an essential part of Ekta Nagar’s success story, said Mr. Agarwal. He further added that Statue of Unity Authority is the first authority of its kind, dedicated to tourism, and that Kerala can follow this model.

Located in Ekta Nagar, the monument is part of a larger initiative focusing on sustainability and biodiversity, with 26 attractions aimed at promoting green wealth. The region features eco-friendly transport with 30 electric buses and 85 e-rickshaws, alongside investments in job creation and entrepreneurship. Upcoming projects include a water park, luxury cruise, and dam experience centre.

The team will continue their journey in Gujarat over the next six days, visiting more cultural landmarks and development initiatives, with a continued focus on sustainability and progress.
